This 70-hour program is especially designed for first-response personnel, fire companies, law enforcement personnel and students interested in allied health professions as an educational career path.  An educational goal of the EMR program is to establish an entry point for students interested in entering the allied health professions.  This course is recommended for students still in high school as an introductory path to allied health careers. 

The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Responder is to initiate immediate lifesaving care to critical patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS response and to assist higher level personnel at the scene and during transport. Emergency Medical Responders function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Responders perform basic interventions with minimal equipment.

Hybrid Learning Model Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) training classes offer pre-recorded and scheduled online content, with occasional weekend "live" remote sessions being required. Practical skills competency days will occur throughout the 6-month course of instruction.

Attendance is extremely important. Classroom absences are strictly monitored and clinical or field absences are limited regardless of the reason. 

The Emergency Medical Responder practical skills training classes are held in locations throughout Montgomery County. The classes start quarterly. The primary course location is:

The 70-hour course is designed to prepare the candidate to take the NREMR psychomotor and cognitive exams. It includes classroom (online and in-person) and lab sessions.

​Students who have successfully completed the didactic and lab components of this program will be eligible to sit for the National Registry EMR Exam. 

Please note: PA Criminal Background checks and Child Abuse Clearance Forms are required for entry into state-accredited EMR programs. 

Prerequisites: EMT Students must be 16 years old at the time of PA DOH / NREMR testing.
